Looking for that upscale coffee shop feel without having to drive far (or spend the upscale prices)? Then, you need to check out Jacob Alejandro in Downtown Troy.

Jacob Alejandro is the product of Alejandro & Jake Griffin-Diaz to, according to their website, “share their passion and knowledge in Specialty Coffee.” This couple met in the industry, both with incredible resumes, and met in 2016 in Ossining, NY at First Village Cafe. The difference with Jacob Alejandro and other coffee shops is that they offer more than just a cup of coffee. They also offer coffee consultations, education, and events.

I think Saratoga Living describes what they’re going after quite well by saying, “For those unfamiliar with the specialty coffee—or “third wave coffee,” as it is sometimes known—movement, it boils down to using higher quality coffee beans, grounds and brewing methods to engineer a flavorful blend unlike the stuff they sell in a can at the supermarket or even at your favorite big-box brewer like Starbucks.”

I didn’t order a coffee, I got a chai latte when I went, but you can tell the heightened level of product that they offer here. Jake has also been putting his CIA degree to use by baking delicious pastries for sale in the space. When we were there, I ordered one of their alfajores which is one of my favorite cookies. It’s a dulce de leche cookie with butter cookies and caramel in the middle. This cookie was amazing. The caramel was fresh, melty, the butter cookies were crumbly, it was drizzled in chocolate – I was in cookie heaven.

If you find yourself in Troy, stop by Jacob Alejandro, support the delicious things going on inside this coffee shop.
