Looking for a basic and delicious breakfast sandwich? Well, I know where you can get it and you may have been missing it this whole time!
Take a trip to Rotterdam Junction and have one of the best breakfast sandwiches you can find in the Capital Region, no really, they said so themselves! The Hungry Chicken Country Store is a small building that packs a big punch.
Inside the store itself you’ll fine a ton of great local products mixed in with some other traditional “country store” things, like jellies, honey, coffee, and some great little trinkets you didn’t know you needed. While I was there, I knew I had to get a breakfast sandwich. It was what I would call a dirty breakfast sandwich and I don’t mean that in terms of hygiene. It’s on a hard roll, fried egg, lots of melted cheese, and perfect for the morning after a hangover. It’s full of flavor and you can’t wait for the next bite.
Sadly, recently, The Hungry Chicken Country Store had a fire that really affected their location. According to their Facebook page: “Dear Friends and Neighbors; we wanted to let everyone associated with the store know that we had a large fire here at our farm this evening. We lost at least 3 of our outbuildings – including our barn that housed our two Katahdin sheep and their lambs. We also lost our cidery and the hen house and sheep shed behind the barn. The house and the store are fine and no people were injured. We want to thank all of the fire companies that responded to the call this evening – as I type here at 12:45 am they are still here and just starting to pack up. We also thank our neighbors for all the well wishes. Louise & Jeff”
Luckily, it seems as if they’re quickly on the road to recovery. They’ve also announced that sheep Ernie is doing much better and on the mend. The best we can do to help them out is to support them during this difficult time. If you’re looking for a delicious breakfast sandwich or want to check out the store, there isn’t a better time then now!
