Milas, Schenectady

Downtown Schenectady is leveling up with exciting new restaurants and culinary experiences. The latest spot just opened, but its owners are no strangers to the scene.

Devin and Kaytrin Ziemann, owners of Ziemann Hospitality Group, have had quite a few restaurants in the area, including The Cuckoo’s Nest, Crave, The Nest and now, Milas. If you’re familiar with any of these locations, then you know what kinds of food these owners are bringing to the table.

My boyfriend and I went to Milas to give it a try and for a date night. The vibe is fancy, but not so fancy that you have to dress up (aka. jeans are fine). The food is Mediterranean. Put your palette on the Greek Isle before you pass over to the south of Spain.

The dinner menu changes per season, but it seems as if the main cocktails stay the same. First, if you’re debating an appetizer, make sure you have room. They have some great dipping options, but my favorite is the whipped herb ricotta ($16), and it’s delicious the next day, too. They also have flatbreads, small plates to share with friends, or focused seafood apps.

If you really want to go hard, then direct your eyes to the sharing part of the menu with a hot seafood platter or tomahawk steak (both $100 each).

Though each dish sounded delicious (we ordered off the Fall 2024 menu), I ended up with the branzino ($32), which is a pan-seared white fish, white bean

truffle puree, sautéed greens, caper gremolata, charred lemon and Jerrys olive oil. My boyfriend ordered the fire-roasted organic chicken kabob ($28), spinach orzo, tomato emulsion, feta, sumac onion and tzatziki. We each ordered a side.

I ordered the Brussels Sprouts ($14) with aleppo brown butter, hazelnut pesto, and pickled fresnos. My boyfriend ordered the Greek lemon potato ($8), with olive oil, lemon, and oregano.

If you’re going with friends, then make sure you don’t mind people aiming their forks at your plate, because you’re going to want to try everything you see. Everything is delicious and flavorful. You can’t go wrong! Also, leave room for dessert! We didn’t, so we are already planning a trip back!
