If you’re looking for something for your child to do to tire them out (we listen and we don’t judge) and have fun, you need to take a look at the great things The Children’s Museum at Saratoga in Saratoga Springs has to offer.
The Children’s Museum was founded in 1990 by community parents and educators. They’ve moved once or twice since it’s been established, but, as of 2021, have found their newest home in the Lincoln Baths building in Saratoga Spa State Park, and reopened in 2022. Find the full history and mission statement on the CMAS website.
This was my first time visiting the Children’s Museum, and it’s up for debate who had more fun – my little cousin or me (or my mom). The museum is designed for children 0-10 and their chaperones/caregivers. There are different areas for the younger children to hang out, but it’s one floor of big open space for children to run around, make friends and just be kids!
Some of the highlights were:
- The fire department: you can play a game to step in the shoes of firefighters and see how much work it takes to put out a fire.
- Stewarts Shops: can’t have a Capital Region museum without a Stewart’s, right? Children can get behind the counter to pretend to scoop ice cream and put together their classic Make-Your-Own Sundae.
- Spectrum News One: if your child ever wanted to know what it was like for our local weather people? Step in front of the green screen and let them try for themselves.
- Sensory room: if it gets to be too much for you or your child, take a step away from the loud and crazy and take a breath.
- Playground: It was dark and wasn’t open so I didn’t have the chance to check out the playground for myself, but I won’t mind another trip back (I just have to check my little cousin’s schedule).
