There’s a reason Fo’Castle Farms is a staple in the Capital Region for both its country store and delicious cider donuts. It’s been around since the early 1900s and with all that they offer, I’m sure they’ll be around for decades to come.
Fo’Castle Farms, yet again, made the most recent list of best cider donuts in the area (check out the 2023 list here). They have a way of making their donuts fluffy and flavorful each and every year. The Daily Gazette voted them the best cider donut locally in 2023 (read more). According to the Gazette, “The bakery is unique in offering five doughnuts per bag rather than a half dozen. The change came after the pandemic, when the bakery noticed that six doughnuts were getting squashed in the bags.”
But did you realize they’re in the fourth generation of being family-owned?
Fo’Castle Farms began in 1908 and is currently owned by Glenn Hogue and has been for the last two decades. He is the fourth generation of the family business. After working in corporate America, he decided to come to Fo’Castle Farms.
All of their treats are homemade, but they also offer delicious goodies from other local businesses like Beekman, Worldling’s Pleasure and more. Their entire store is what you’d expect from a country store, offering a little bit of everything. It’s the perfect place to shop if you’re looking for gifts since there are so many things to choose from. While you’re there, you can stop at their new restaurant (after Stella’s moved to downtown Schenectady), called Lunch Thyme.
If you haven’t been in, you’re really missing a Capital Region treasure- especially if you haven’t had their cider donuts yet, what are you waiting for?
