My boyfriend and I took a trip to LEGOLAND New York recently and though the drive is doable, I wanted a place to stay. We ended up at Resorts World Catskills.

After waking up early in the morning, then spending the entire day at LEGOLAND New York, the last thing I wanted to do was drive all the way back to the Capital Region so we decided to spend a night at a nearby hotel. I didn’t want just any hotel where we’d have to explore the area and find a way to spend our night, I wanted something lively and a casino seemed to check all of the boxes.

Resorts World Catskills opened in October 2018. It has, according to its website, more than 100,000 square feet of Las Vegas-style gaming including 1,600 slot machines and more than 150 live table games. It also has 12 varied bar and restaurant experiences, a 332 room all-suite hotel, which also includes 27 premium accommodations consisting of garden suites, penthouse suites, and two-story villas, Crystal Life Spa, two fitness centers, and the 2,500 seat
RW Epicenter. It’s also very close to The Kartrite Hotel and Indoor Waterpark which opened in 2019 as well as a Rees Jones-redesigned golf course to be added this year.

We stayed there on a Monday night. The Doubletop Bar & Grill wasn’t open (due to COVID-19) and Cellaio wasn’t open on Mondays. We decided to have dinner at Good Friends when the menu at Lotus or 24/7 Bistro didn’t jump out at us. The style of Good Friends is like a cafeteria with Asian-inspired foods. I ordered one of almost every appetizer (Vegetable Spring Rolls, Pork Pot Stickers, and Steamed Jade Shrimp Dumplings). My boyfriend ordered Sesame Chicken with their Young Chow Fried Rice. The food was delicious, definitely higher quality than a regular take out place.

For breakfast, we went across the hall to 24/7 Bistro which was diner-styled. I ordered a delicious lox and bagels and my boyfriend ordered a breakfast sandwich. Overall, food-wise, we were satisfied. Everything was delicious, the service was great, I just wish there were a few more options for dinner.

The room was spacious. The view was incredible, especially because there was a bad storm that night and we got to watch it at what seemed like eye-level. The bathroom was just as big as the main space was with a walk in shower and enough space to hold a dance party (we didn’t, though).

Though neither me nor my boyfriend really gamble, it was a lively space to spend the night when we don’t know the area that well. I ended up gambling a little and earned two free drinks with the Players Club card so that was a surprise. Overall, it was a great hotel to spend the night, especially if you like slots, table games and sportsbooks!
