There’s something about the flavors in Indian food that just warms a part of my heart. Of course, I had to check out the place that’s been named the best in the area for years on end!
Shalimar opened in the area in 1992 and describes themselves on their website, “We serve a selection of traditional Pakistani and Indian dishes as well as several of our own creations. The ingredients we use complement each other nutritionally and please the palate. All dishes are made with fresh ground herbs and spices and contain no MSG or Gluten.”
My boyfriend and I ordered the Express Lunch Bowl Menu for $9.99. It was served with fresh Naan bread and your choice of either vegetable biryani or vegetable rice. After that, you can either choose two of a vegetarian option or non-vegetarian option. We both ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken.
When the meal came, it was a pretty interesting way of plating. It was the three different dishes each served in its own bowl. Everything was delicious! It was a perfect portion size for lunch (we even took some of it home because we were full). We had some Mango lassi to drink which paired perfectly with all of the spices. They also gave us a small side of rice pudding which was a perfect way to end the meal.
Though you can dine-in, it seems like they’re primarily a to-go/pick-up place since COVID. Everything was great and I’d be curious to see what other dishes they have on their full menu for dinner another time.
