Do you have a favorite apple cider donut locally? I can’t help myself each fall to try and eat as many as I can and this year brought me to Saratoga Apple for the first time.
I went to Saratoga Apple not only to try their cider donuts but to taste their hard cider too. During the fall season, they are a working orchard and you can pick-your-own apples across the street in their orchard. If you don’t need to pick apples yourself, you can buy some in the store along with their donuts.
I went to the back, through the country store, to where they have tastings of hard cider. We decided to to a flight including Brown’s Brewing beer (Troy), Mean Max beer (Glens Falls), 1911 Cidery (Lafayette, NY), and their own Saratoga Apple hard cider.
The cider was crisp and very apple-y, one of my favorites that I’ve had, but hard to put in direct comparison with 1911 Black Cherry. Their cider donuts were delicious too, if you’re looking for a squishier donut with a lot of sugar. It paired really well with the cider! Next time, I may have to head up there to pick-my-own apples (and some more hard cider), until next year…
