Looking for a funky, fresh eatery right in the heart of Downtown Schenectady that all of the celebs rave about? Well, then you’re looking for Ambition Coffee & Eatery!

If you want the entire history of the building, you can visit Ambition’s website and read about it but the eatery we know and love started April 10th, 2000 after Jay Tavern closed. Back in the beginnings of the building, it used to be the home of Asbury B. Christian which is thought to have been a brothel. As their website says, “While cleaning out the upstairs, we found a number of old relics from the building’s early days such as gambling tokens and a corset. However, we unknowingly awoke the spirit of Asbury B. Christian. Because of similar descriptions, we’ve nicknamed him Blackboots. His spirit has remained in the building and has been seen in the restaurant by staff and customers alike.” So, no worries, you’re never eating alone.

Ambition is just a cool place in downtown Schenectady that doesn’t try to be trendy, it just is. Many celebrities have walked through those doors from the various things filmed in the area or events at Proctors and they all agree that it’s great food in a great environment. You can tell from the funky decorations to the out of the box names on the menu, there’s something different about this place.

I went recently during Restaurant Appreciation week and experienced their brunch all day special. I ordered a Godiva spiked hot chocolate along with Verklempt, or bagel and lox. The food was fresh, quick, and delicious. Can’t wait to try the next thing on their menu!
