The visit may be out of the way but the self-guided tour is a beautiful day outside seeing some pretty amazing animals at June Farms.
I spent a beautiful day a few months ago at June Farms in West Sand Lake. The farm is owned by Matt Baumgartner who is also known for his businesses Bombers Burrito Bar, Old English Pub, and Wolff’s Biergarten and now, he has June Farms.
As they say on their website, “We specialize in working with “heritage breeds”, traditional livestock breeds that were raised by our ancestors centuries ago. All of our animals are pasture raised, they have access to plenty of fresh grass, and they are treated with love and respect.”
The self-guided tour take about an hour or so and is only about a mile long in a big circle. You buy a day pass for $5 at the snack shack where you also have the opportunity to buy food. There are animals all over the farm so if you want to bring them closer, I recommend buying a bag.
The name June Farms may sound familiar because they were recently in the news because of a pig scandal. They had two pigs that were pregnant on the farm so they started a camera to keep an eye on them, streamed online. One viewer noticed that the barn caught on fire and called and saved the pigs’ lives. The pigs are no longer pregnant, unrelated to the fire situation.
It’s a great place for all ages during the day and a fun place for 21+ once the sun sets. They are open to hosting your next event and have plenty of places to set you and your guests up so keep them in mind next time we’re allowed to have big parties again.
