It’s one of those things you always thought to do when you were younger but all of a sudden you forget it exists. Let me remind you, we have quite a few great places locally to go roller skating.
Roller skating rinks used to be the pastime activity with rinks all over the area. The number is a lot less than that but there are still a bunch in Upstate New York, broken down by New York Upstate. I took their list and narrowed it down to the Capital Region, and we still have quite a few places to go!
- Schenectady’s Rollerama: this is a blast from my past, on 2710 Hamburg Street. It’s a family-owned establishment that still hosts different events, parties, classes and more. Includes free skate rentals for all ages.
- Amsterdam’s High Rollers Skating: on 4313 NY 30, they host birthday parties, “Friday Night Jams,” and more. Admission is $5 with a $3 skate rental.
- Queensbury’s The Fun Spot: go to 1035 Rt. 9 and they don’t just have roller skating. They also offer laser tag, mini-golf, ninja challenges, go-karts, and more!
- Fulton’s Bilou Roller Skating Rink: on 1804 Rt. 3 and only open Fridays-Sundays. Pay $8 and it includes admission and skate rental.
- Cohoes’ Guptill’s Arena: probably the most popular of all of the roller rinks, being the world’s largest indoor skating rink. Go to 1085 New Loudon Road and you can skate, eat delicious ice cream at Coney Express, or visit Secrets for the “wa-wa-wa-water cannons.” It’s one of the oldest rinks in the state, being open for about 70 years.
