I never really think that cities in the area need a theme song. When I think of the area, I tend to automatically have the Water Slide World song in my head, but that’s just me. If there were to be a theme song for Schenectady, this one has a point.
When I went away to college, I joked that I learned to spell one of the hardest words in the English language before I could read. Imagine, and I’m sure some of you have been in the same place, having to memorize your address and being able to spell AND pronounce “Schenectady” correctly. People can’t even say Albany properly and that’s the capital, plus a much easier word.
When I saw this video on YouTube called “I Can’t Spell Schenectady,” it spoke to me. This video, from 1953, was performed by Big Jon Arthur and the ‘No School Today’ Cast off of the album “Outdoor Songs for Indoor Days” according to the SchdyInventTech YouTube page. If anything, you may recognize these insights into Schenectady’s history.
