I love sushi. So, when I was looking for a place to eat in New York City and I saw the interior of SushiDelic, I immediately booked a reservation.
We have some amazing food in the Capital Region, but New York City has some of the most interesting dining experiences and that’s what brought me to SushiDelic (177 Lafayette St, New York). The best way to describe it is if Lisa Frank exploded in Japan with a conveyor belt.
A little backstory on me, I own a sushi train- actually, two. I see conveyor belt restaurants online and since we don’t have any in the Capital Region, I create my own. So, to have the opportunity to go to a restaurant with that decor and a conveyor belt, no questions, I went.
As they say on their website, SushiDelic “is an immersive Kawaii experience.” They just celebrated their one-year anniversary in June 2024 and BroadwayWorld wrote an article about it. They said “The restaurant was designed by celebrated Japanese artist Sebastian Masuda, also known as the ‘Godfather of Kawaii,’ who is responsible for Kawaii Monster Cafe in Tokyo, and fashion label 6%DOKIDOKI, to create a surreal world of maximalist design.”
Everything on the menu sounded amazing and nothing would’ve made me happier than ordering the Sushi Tower Deluxe but with a 3 hour train ride back to Albany in my future, I restrained myself. Well, kind of. I went with the Sush-Go-Round ($32) with 3 types of Omakase Nigiri and a California Roll, Special Eel Roll and Wagyu Roll that came with a miso soup, house salad and some potato thing that was really delicious. Everything on the menu looked beautiful, you can definitely tell that an artist was behind the design of these dishes. Even the green tea cheesecake ($12) was beautiful as it came around the belt.
Unlike most places like this, the design isn’t everything and they back it up with delicious sushi, too.
