Camp Bow Wow, Albany

You know what makes me happy? Dogs. And the lovely staff of Camp Bow Wow let me spend some time with their campers to see what the experience would be like.

According to their website, Camp Bow Wow^® was founded by entrepreneur and avid dog lover, Heidi Ganahl, who opened its first location in December 2000 and was one of the first dog daycare facilities in Colorado. If you decide that you want to board your dog there (for either a day or overnight), your furry friend will have to go through a process to see if it’s the right space for them. I do appreciate that they make sure all dogs are comfortable in their space. They test the dog’s anxiety with various dog genders and sizes to make sure the dog is comfortable. Their motto is “Dogs over dollars.”

Based on what I saw, they not only have a great system for keeping track of the dogs and their needs but genuinely care for each dog. With the number of dogs they had, the staff not only knew the names of each dog but their little nuances and personalities. It really feels like a day camp but for dogs. They’re taking the same amount of care of your furry family member that day camps would for your children (and to some of us, our dogs are our children).

They also use cabins instead of crates so your floof has plenty of room to rest and stretch during the day when they’re not in the play yard. They have a system to keep everything clean, which can be tough for a facility that has over 60 dogs at one time. Walking through, I didn’t get that wet dog or urine smell that you may expect with that many dogs in one place. Overall, I was really impressed how systematic everything was.
