Recurring Event Event Series: Family Saturdays

Family Saturdays

12/03/2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announce that its fall schedule of popular, fun, educational Family Saturdays will be on November 5 and 19 and December 3. These multigenerational foster creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity.

The Family Saturday event that had been scheduled for September 24 will now be at 2 pm on Saturday, November 5. Family Saturday: Embroidered Notes, based on the current exhibition Lotus Shoes: Stories between Stitches will be led by Njeri Jennings, the Tang’s new Laurie M. Tisch Educator for K-12 and Community Programs. Participants will explore the exhibition, talk about it, and then decorate their own felt envelopes.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will run from 2 to 3:30 pm. It is suitable for children age 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. In accordance with guidance from Saratoga County, the CDC, and Skidmore College, the program is mask-optional, and participants are welcome to wear masks should they wish.

  • On November 19, the program will be Family Saturday: Harvest Time Activities: Participants will learn about Haudenosaunee agricultural practices and will be invited to create bean collages, paper-pumpkin squash sculptures, and beaded corn figures based on the Three Sisters agricultural practices.
  • On December 3, the program will be Family Saturday: Snowflake Sculptures: After visiting Parallax: Framing the Cosmos, participants are invited to create snowflakes sculptures from clothes hangers.
