Back for the second year, Washington County has its own version of lights in the park but instead, you get to enjoy the drive of lights through the fairgrounds.
Washington County Fairgrounds hosted its second year of Holiday Lighted Nights this year. For $25 per car, you can drive through the lights and experience Holiday Square. Throughout December, you can visit with Santa on select nights and even experience the lights from a tractor-drawn wagon.
Overall, it was just what you’d expect. They give you a radio station to turn to and you get to hear Christmas songs (and radio sweepers) from Townsquare Media’s stations, they’re the sponsor. Honestly, was there anything incredible about the lights? No, but it brings that same feel that Holiday Lights in the Park did in Washington Park, Albany. It’s a chance to experience Christmas lights with your family from the comfort (and heat) of your own car. It still brings the warm holiday feels that you’re looking for while singing familiar Christmas songs at the top of your lungs.
Note that if you do intend to go to Holiday Square, you must stop off in the middle of the drive, or else you’ve missed your chance. They have signs there saying that but for some reason I didn’t believe it and then, we missed it. So, pull over in the parking lot, walk around, grab some cocoa or something and then continue on the drive. Overall, it didn’t take too long to get through but it depends on the people around you of course. For $25 for a car full, you can’t beat it.
