10 (or so, COVID makes time mucky) years ago, I heard about a group of gingers getting together in Downtown Troy and joined in because, why not? Now, here we are in 2022 gathering and growing and the League of Extraordinary Red Heads has never been stronger!
Okay, so, quick backstory – I’m a natural redhead. That’s it, that’s the backstory. I’ve never died my hair (no, not even highlights) and throughout my whole life, I’ve been pale with freckles and have had a great friendship with sunscreen.
I’ve always been the lone redhead in a group of friends, heard the sexual jokes (thanks Paris Hilton’s ex-bf whose name is irrelevant), been asked if I had a soul, compared to Wendy’s mascot and had to nurse a heavy sunburn because I’ve been out in the sun longer than 20mins. It was so great to see a group of people who got the jokes and felt how I felt over the years and be celebrating at a bar.
Every year, the redheads gather in Downtown Troy, go through the agenda and cheer to a whole new year of ginger support. I don’t know if it’s because we know there are not many of us, because redheads are always a good time or what but this is one of my favorite events of the year.
