I will always be crazy over the wild slides. Wild, you bet!
Just the mention of the name puts the jingle in your head and after some upcoming demolition, that will be all that remains of the famous Water Slide World. ICYM the tragic story of our famed Water Slide World (find previous posts here), after the death of the owner, his wife just didn’t have the ability to keep it open. So, since at least 2018, it sat unused, no more the #1 in family fun.
The Albany Business Journal reported that Water Slide World was purchased by Schermerhorn Real Estate Holdings of Queensbury for $3 million. Their plan is to demolish the park and build affordable housing apartments with rent from $1000 to $1500 per month. They’re also hoping to house retail and office space as well.
Water Slide World was a family water park starting in 1979 on a property that was originally a drive-in movie theater. Fun fact: late owner Gary Koncikowki installed the first wave pool built in NY in 1984.
It’s a sad change but with no one interested in reopening the park, it’s time for us all to move on.
So, one more time….Water Slide World, I’m really crazy ’bout your wild slides….
