The Mill Lane Artisan District has been growing quickly, first with Frog Alley, then Annabelle’s, then Bountiful Bread, and a new restaurant has just been announced.
Owner/architect J.T. Pollard announced that the last vacant spot in the Mill Lane Artisan District has been filled. The complex will gain a butcher shop and the historic brick building next door will probably be a steakhouse/bar, according to The Daily Gazette.
The building at the corner of South College and State streets is known as The Blockhouse, once being the home of Blockhouse Beef And Brew tavern among many other things for the last 200 years.
“The Blockhouse kind of went on the back burner because this thing became so big, we had to get our arms around it,” Pollard said of the Mill Lane building, which grew in size and complexity as the project went on and dragged out when the pandemic hit.
The building needs a lot of work, but they’re hoping to not lose the aesthetic of the old pieces. They’re looking at a “small bar with a speakeasy vibe in the lower level.” They’re hoping to finish in early 2023.
