The sport you may not have realized is as big as it is – disc golf- is expanding its hold on the Capital Region area.
Last summer, 18 disc golf holes opened in Crandall Park in Glens Falls. After growing in popularity, the golfers want more! According to WTEN, professional disc golfers Jaimen Hume and Greg Hill approached the city with the idea to grow the sport to Haviland’s Cove Park.
“There’s a bunch of little fire pits back in the woods, and high school kid hangouts; maybe even people staying out there in the wooded parts near the shoreline,” described Hill. “I think running a course along the perimeter of the shoreline would help clean that area up, to be honest.”
This new course would only be 9 holes and more geared toward beginners. Glens Falls Tourism and Development Director Amy Collins said 646 players were recorded in June 2021, 498 more in August and their tournament had an easy 150 participants.
One of the best parts of disc golf is that the sport is pretty cheap to participate and you’d probably be surprised by the number of places there are in the area to play. Find the disc gold course close to you on DG Course Review.
