If you’ve had Cosmic Donuts on your list of local must-try businesses, I have bad news for you.
As you’ve probably noticed, the Capital Region food fads go through phases. We had our cupcake phase, then the COVID cookie phase, and then, out of nowhere, the donuts phase. One of the top donut must-try places was Cosmic Donuts in Kinderhook. A bit of a drive from the central Capital Region, the buzz about these donuts reached far and wide. I, too, had to hop on I-90 and make the trip to try these donuts.
Sadly, a couple of weeks ago, after 13 months in business, Cosmic Donuts announced via their Facebook that they were closing. First, the business closed for a month after losing their head baker, according to the Times Union. Now, they’ve announced that the closing is permanent.
Though I only had the chance to visit Cosmic Donuts once, it was a pleasure to meet everyone involved and the donuts were honestly worth the bit of a trip. I’m happy to see that though we’re sad to see them go, the owners are relieved and in a better place with it gone. The business is for sale so, who knows, maybe Cosmic Donuts will be resurrected again someday.
