Times Union Center Has a New Name

We had heard a week or so ago that the arena that has had many names will add another to the list.

Whether you’ve called it Knickerbocker Arena (“The Knick”), Pepsi Arena (“The Pepsi”), or the Times Union Center (“The TU”), it’s the one arena in the area that brings us both Justin Timberlake and the Siena Saints under one roof – not at the same time, though.

The Times Union Center announced recently that after 15 years, the Times Union would not be renewing the contract for keeping the arena under its name. That made everyone wonder, what’s the next name we’re going to call it? And, of course, by that I mean, what name is it going to be called that eventually, we’ll get right with enough practice.

Albany County asked for bids for the arena’s new name and the winner was MVP. The other bids included Berkshire Bank, MTX Group, and Transfinder, according to the Times Union.

The new name takes effect on Jan. 1, 2022.
