Set your DVRs because the theme for tonight’s “Beat Bobby Flay” is Saratoga!

Tonight at 8:00pm on the Food Network is “The Battle for Saratoga.” According to the summary on their website, “Golf phenom Michelle Wie joins Food Network’s Scott Conant to add a stroke to Bobby Flay’s game. Saratoga, N.Y., chefs Jeannette Liebers and Chris Bonnivier are on the scene to make sure Bobby takes a mulligan as they duke it out for the title of best brunch in town.”

Jeannette Liebers is owner-chef at popular Saratoga eatery Sweet Mimi’s Cafe. We all know that Bobby Flay frequents the area around track season and back in 2019, he stopped into Sweet Mimi’s for some breakfast, according to the Daily Gazette. “He ordered a classic Saratoga sandwich (consisting of a homemade biscuit, sausage patty, Vermont cheddar cheese and eggs).” Then, after his meal, Liebers took the moment into her own hands and challenged Flay, saying she’d be able to beat him on his hit Food Network show. Seven days later, she got the call from his production team to interview.

Chris Bonnivie was the chef at the Blue Hen at the time, which is now Morrissey’s Lounge & Bistro at the Adelphi Hotel. The funny thing is that before filming, Liebers and Bonnivie didn’t know each other. The filming ended and was supposed to air in 2020 but was pushed due to the pandemic.

Can’t wait to see how our hometown chefs do up against Food Network star Bobby Flay tonight!
