Arthur’s to Reopen in Stockade Under New Ownership

If you’re familiar with Schenectady and the Stockade, then you know that Arthur’s is a historic staple. Now, with a new owner, we’ll see new life in the building.

The space itself has been a market since its beginning in 1795 and named Arthur’s since 1952 since owned by Arthur Polachek. Polachek retired in 2003 and had three owners since, according to the Daily Gazette. The current owner, Haley Priebe, has talked about how she wishes to return Arthur’s, to be called Arthur’s 1795, to the market we all remember.

Priebe purchased the property in 2018 and wants “to make it a place where the community can sit and eat or drink, inside and out, with a selection of prepared foods to take away and a small but wide array of items for sale on the shelves.” If you’ve been following the journey on Instagram, it’s great to see the antique items she’s been purchasing and rumors of the menu they’ll be offering.

They announced on their Facebook page that we can expect them to open on March 4th. If you want to check it out, reserve a shopping time on their website which gives you a 45-minute shopping window.
