It takes a lot for me to get excited about vegan food. Nothing against the life choice, the flavors just don’t usually excite me. That was until Square One Cafe and I’m sad to hear it’s closing.
Square One Cafe took over where The Happy Cappuccino left on Jay St in Downtown Schenectady. It was something unlike anything else in the area in a demographic that doesn’t have a lot of options – vegan.
Square One Cafe was only open about a year, but in that time dug itself out a space in a challenging area to succeed. I remember the FIRST TIME I wrote about Square One Cafe, I was amazed that I had finally found a vegan eatery that has food I want over and over. Brief moment of silence for the vegan mac and cheese I won’t be able to go downtown and get anymore.
As you can read below, there were some issues in the background with management that caused the close, not COVID. Either way, I hope this isn’t the end for Square One Cafe and that they’ll be able to find a new location to open in the future. The food they served was delicious and they will surely be missed in the vegan community.
