If you’ve been on the thruway lately then you’ve seen a ton of changes happening rather quickly when it comes to the tolls. Well, if you don’t have an E-ZPass, more changes are coming.
You’ve already heard that we’re getting rid of tollbooths and driving the thruway, you may have seen that they’re already disappearing. These aren’t the only changes in regards to thruway tolls.
The State Thruway Authority passed its budget on Tuesday and according to Spectrum News, that means that if you don’t have an E-ZPass, your rates are going up. Starting January 1st, you will see a 30% increase in tolls if you don’t have an E-ZPass. If you do, then you will see no changes.
That’s not all. “If you have an out of state E-ZPass, you’re also going to be charged 15% more than the New York rate. And large trucks will have to pay 20% more than the passenger rate.” Also, for no E-ZPass, you will be charged a $2 administrative fee for each toll bill.
You must have a credit card in order to have an E-ZPass, but you can register for your own through their website.
