If you live in Schenectady and a fan of Italian food then you know the deliciousness that is Civitello’s in Little Italy in Schenectady.

I feel like it’s a secret between us Schenectadians that Wednesday and Friday are really important days in Little Italy. Those are the days that you can get an eggplant sandwich at Civitello’s in Downtown Schenectady.

These sandwiches are so popular that they tend to be sold out before the shop closes for the day. There’s just something about eating fresh, homemade eggplant on local Italian bread that brings the sandwich to a new level. If you love eggplant, now you’re in on the hidden gem here in Schenectady, don’t miss out!

Civitello’s Italian Pastry Shoppe is a staple on Jay Street. Ralph Civitello arrived in America from Alvignano, Italy in 1911 at the age of 16 and after working at GE, he wanted to open something that reached back to his Italian roots. Believe it or not, September of 1921 was when Civitello’s opened in its current location and they haven’t looked back since. To see the full history, and there’s a lot of it within about 100 years, you can read it on their website.
