Looking for an activity to do outdoors and while social distancing? Fishing is free the weekend of June 27-28.
The Department of Environmental Conservation is reminding people that June 27-28 is Free Fishing Weekend in New York, according to New York Upstate.
What that means is that next weekend, New York residents and non-residents are both allowed to fish for free in state waters without having to have a fishing license. All other regulations are still in effect.
There are two more fishing weekends this year, Sept. 26 and Nov. 11.
Regularly, if you’re fishing and over the age of 16, you would need to have a license. You can obtain a license either from a local licensing agent (see the list by county), by phone or online through the DEC website.
