Looking for something new to explore in the state? Take a little drive away and you can see the state’s tallest waterfall!
New York State is home to 2000 waterfalls, according to Only in Your State, and the tallest is only about an hour away in Hunter, NY.
Kaaterskill Falls is located in Kaaterskill Wild Forest with a drop of 260 feet. You can view the falls from a few points, you can park at the Laurel-House Road parking lot and walk about .3 miles to a viewing platform. Park at the Scott Road parking lot and take the half-mile blue-marked hike to see the falls. You can also take the Kaaterskill Falls Trail which is a moderate yellow-marked 2.6mile trail to see the falls as well.
You can visit the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for all of the trails you can go on in the Kaaterskill Wild Forest.
If you’re planning on taking the short route, be forewarned that it’s on a rather busy stretch of road with little to no shoulder to walk along. For a full description of the trails and what to expect, check out Hike the Hudson Valley.
