Have you ever wanted to live in a castle? Well, I can’t promise you that, but there are a few local castles that will allow you to spend a night there.
First, I know what you’re thinking and yes, there are actually castles around here. Thanks to New York Upstate who put this list together of places you can staycation and feel like royalty.
- Amsterdam Castle (Amsterdam): it’s the former New York National Guard Armory and the interior is beautiful, complete with armored knights
- Highlands Castle (Bolton Landing): this castle has a beautiful view of the lake, is only about five minutes from downtown Bolton Landing and has five rental options, Royal Bedroom, King’s Suite, Castle Cottage, Castle Gatehouse or the entire Highlands Castle.
- Wing’s Castle (Millbrook): a bit further of a drive but this one is cool because “About 80 percent of materials used come from junkyards, flea markets, demolition projects.” There are also about five rooms to choose from.
- Erlowest (Lake George): Mansion…castle..to me it’s pretty much the same thing. You know a place is important when a ton of people choose the backdrop of it for their weddings. Great restaurant, great view, and just far enough from Lake George Village but close enough that you can get there easily.
