Usually, when you think of a cover charge, you think of bars and live music, right? Well, now, you’re gonna have to pay a cover for apple picking too.
Bowman Orchards has announced that they will be starting a cover charge, according to CBS6. You don’t have to pay any more for the apples themselves but you will have to pay $5 per car when you enter the facility as a kind of “cover charge.”
The reason isn’t just to make more money but rates have gone up for other reasons. “The wage increase, and it’s not just about that,” said Kevin Bowman of Bowman Orchards. “There’s so many new mandates that are put on agriculture and put on every business in New York, that we have to find a way to come up with that. Adding the five dollars per car for people to come in, we think that will help offset that.”
The good part though is that if you spend more than $25 at Bowman Orchards, that $5 will go toward what you buy.
