Have You Ever Been to an Albany Empire Game? [VIDEO]

Whether you’re a football fan or not, there’s something about supporting a big local team that’s just a great way to spend a Saturday.

I’m not gonna pretend that I know a single thing about football, because I don’t. I don’t watch it on television, I don’t follow a particular team, and I only know some of the players’ names on the New England Patriots because I’ve heard my boyfriend say them once or twice.

When it was announced that we were going to get a professional sports team here, I went “Oh cool,” and I figured that was the end of that for me. I wanted them to do well but I figured it wouldn’t be my thing. I was wrong!

If you’re a football fan, you’re gonna love going to see the Albany Empire anyway. You already love the game, you love the competition, you love rooting for a team and the fact that it’s Albany is just icing on the cake. If you’re not a football fan, I’m talking to you.

There’s something about rooting for a local team, wearing shirts and jerseys that say Albany, that make the game itself entertaining for someone like me who only has a basic knowledge of what’s going on. In between plays there are games that fans participate in like dizzy bat, complete the lyric, field goal kick, and more. You also have a chance to catch a shirt or even a hot dog. Yes, you read that right, they throw hot dogs.

It’s more than just an arena football game, it’s a lot of fun for the whole family. Also, because it’s inside the Times Union Center, you’re so close to the action! If you were like me and brushed it off because you didn’t like football, give it a chance. Tickets aren’t that expensive and they have days through the season with discounted tickets to keep en eye out for. Last year, we came in second, this year, we have our eyes on first to take care of some #UnfinishedBusiness!
