Troy Hidden Garden Tour Honors Late Founder
This year is the 20th anniversary of Troy’s Hidden Garden Tour, but it’s also the first without its beloved founder Nina Pattison.
The Troy Hidden Garden Tour is a self-guided walking tour of over 35 private backyards in Troy. This year’s tour will be this Thursday, May 23rd from 4:00pm-7:30pm. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit Troy’s Historic Prospect Park.
This year, the tour will be called “Nina’s Troy Hidden Garden Tour” in honor of the late founder Nina Pattison. Last year, the tour had more than 1000 tourgoers but this year, they’re expecting more. This year, the self-guided tour will take you through 42 private backyard gardens, 12 more than before.
If you’re interested in the tour, you must check in at the Russell Sage College Parking lot on First St. to receive your hidden garden tour map. With the number of gardens, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to visit all 42 but a popular one this year will certainly be the Tesnakis garden. This garden is older than the tour itself at 40 years old!
Nina Pattison’s garden will again be the first stop on the tour this year, tended to by its new owners.
“It’s a joy to see the Hidden Garden Tour’s 20th Anniversary event named for my mother, Nina Pattison, one of the founders of the garden tours,” said Martha Quinn, Pattison’s daughter. “Two of my mother’s passions were her beloved Troy, and making the world a beautiful place one garden at a time.”
You may recognize Quinn’s name as she was one of the original five MTV video jockeys of the 1980s.
