Fish for Free this Weekend

New year, new list of free fishing days and one of them is this weekend.

The state sets up some designated days of the year to go fishing for free and the first is this weekend, February 16-17, according to CBS6.

Whether you’re a New York State resident or visiting for the weekend, everyone is allowed to fish this weekend without a fishing license.

CBS6 went into detail with the types of fish available this season, “primarily perch, sunfish, pickerel, northern, and walleye.” Before you go, it’s probably a good idea to check the Department of Environmental Conservation website for tips and instructions on how to check the thickness of the ice. It tells you what you should wear, the tools you should be having, when and where to fish, and the recommended species.

This isn’t the only free fishing days of the year, you can also add to your calendar, June 29-30, Sept. 28, and Nov. 11.
