NYRA Announces Changes to Saratoga Race Course Season

One of the more popular places to be during the summer is the Saratoga Race Course but this year, they’re changing!

After some speculation, NYRA has officially announced the changes to the 2019 Saratoga Race Course schedule. News 10 is reporting that this year, the meet will be Thursday, July 11 and run through Labor Day, Monday, September 2. Another change is that racing at Saratoga will be five days a week with Monday and Tuesday both being dark days.

They’re doing this for two reasons. One, so Saratoga businesses have more time to recover from the influx of people surrounding the season. Also, their hope is that this gives the horses more time to rest. Their hope is that this keeps both the horses and jockeys safer this season, especially with the rise in horse injuries the past couple of years..

The season may feel longer but with the added dark day, the meet will still be a total of 40 days as usual.
