Albany’s Quackenbush Square Development Postponed
As you drive through Albany, you may have wondered about the giant space on the riverfront (no, they didn’t tear down that eyesore white building) They have big plans for the space, the only problem is that it’s going to take longer than expected.
You’ll know Quackenbush Square as the area next to the original location of Albany Distilling, near Olde English. It used to be a bunch of buildings and a make-shift, not really parking lot I used when I was going to the Palace. Now, it’s just a big hole in the ground but there are big plans happening behind the scenes.
I saw on the Times Union that they were hoping to add a hotel, apartment, as well as retail space to the area. They were hoping to begin the construction on the soon-to-be Hyatt in October but because of budget and a few other issues, they will not be starting under March 2019 with the construction to take somewhere between 12 and 15 months. I’m also excited to see another parking garage down in that area. Don’t you feel like Albany just never has enough places to park? With the development of that area, plus down by Nine Pin and the relatively new Vintage, I like seeing Albany improving. Now, if we could just finally do something about that awful white square.
