New Veteran-Owned Brewery to Open in Fort Edward
If you ask me, there can’t be too many breweries to open in the Capital Region and thankfully they’re not stopping yet with a new one scheduled for Fort Edward!
Kris and Heather March of Queensbury are both Marine Corps veterans and according to the Post Star, plan on opening a new brewery called SlickFin Brewing Company in Fort Edward around November-December. The name “slickfin,” which I just learned, is the Marine Corps term for the “bottom fin area of a bomb.”
Kris started brewing while stationed overseas and after he retired in 2016 and quit his robotics industry job in 2017, he decided to put his effort into a brewery. The family who came here from Boston have Capital Region roots with Heather and her family being from Fort Ann.
They’re hoping to start off with 8 taps with a tap room that can hold about 35 people and an outdoor seating space that doubles that capacity. They’re looking to start with “a mixture of “IPAs, sours, stouts and a vanilla cream ale” and though growlers will be for sale, they’re not planning for mass distribution any time soon.
