Hattie’s to Celebrate Anniversary This Sunday
Believe it or not, Hattie’s is celebrating a big birthday this Sunday and they not only want you to be a part of it but they want you to recognize some of their own.
Hattie’s Chicken Shack, especially in this area, is synonymous with delicious tasting chicken and this Sunday, they’ll be celebrating the big 8-0!
Hattie’s opened in 1938 by Hattie Gray (yes, there actually is a real Hattie). Hattie was born and raised in Louisiana since
1900 (that’s her best guesstimate anyway). When her mother passed away, she moved to New Orleans, then to her sister in Chicago when she started a job with “The Starch King,” the A.E. Staley family. With them, she traveled to Florida for the winter and Saratoga for the summer. In that time, she saved her money, fell in love with Saratoga and opened the first Hattie’s Chicken Shack, still using the same recipe since 1938 and still in the same location since 1968.
On Sunday, the Times Union is reporting that Hattie’s will be having $1.80 chicken, a special anniversary menu, a raw bar, and $5 hurricanes. At 1:00PM, the current owners are asking that you join them in honoring their 8 longest working employees who together have 127 years of service and have worked there on average for about 16 years.
