Saratoga and North Creek Railway Closes [PHOTOS]

It wasn’t anything I went on frequently but it was nice to know it was there and made the trip up to North Creek to go skiing or tubing on Gore Mountain a lot easier but now, sadly, it’s closed.

Sure, you could drive up to North Creek from Saratoga, but there was something cool and quaint about the Saratoga-North Creek Railway that makes me sad to see it ending. My boyfriend and I went on the railway thanks to a Groupon and it was a really cool experience. It was old school seating, a glass-domed top and an old-school menu for a delicious dinner for our way back. I saw on Spectrum News, though, that the railway has announced that they’re closing.

From the quick and easy shuttle to North Creek just for a day-trip, the Polar Express around Christmas time, or just to experience train travel like it used to be, it always seemed so popular so I don’t understand why they pulled the plug. I heard that some of the trains were getting old and there were worries about it affecting the environment but I hope that could be rectified in the future and brought back to life. The General Manager is directing all questions to Ed Ellis, president of Iowa Pacific.
