It’s Official, Albany Super Ducks Not Coming
If you hoping this was the year for a duck tour around Albany to come back, you’re outta luck. After promoting and hiring people, they decided to nix the idea.
The Albany Super Ducks planned to offer 90-minute tours of Albany last summer, according to the Times Union. The captains would give a tour explaining 44 Albany landmarks including the New York State Capitol Building, Albany City Hall and Herman Melville’s childhood home. Since we haven’t had something like this for awhile, I was excited to see these tours back in Albany.
The Times Union did a bit more investigation and Albany Super Ducks have decided to not launch the business because of insurance costs and fatalities with similar businesses in other places. These tragic lawsuits have increased the cost of insurance for similar companies. They held an official launch event last June and advanced tickets were sold but nothing ever came from it. The company has refunded all tickets and are looking to begin a similar tour-based business but without the amphibious vehicles.
