New Sports Dome Coming to Colonie

The discussion has taken four years but the plans have been made and construction on the new $11.5million sports dome could begin as early as January.

Colonie’s Industrial Development Agency recently approved the construction of this sports dome and signed an agreement with the owner of Afrim’s Sports. After years of zoning and tax issues, finally, the sports dome will be created. The Times Union reported that it will be a 28.6 acre site near Memory Gardens with a dome, two other buildings (12,000 sqft and 900sqft), and four outdoor fields used for a bunch of different sporting events. The new facility will keep 15 jobs as well as create 15 more jobs.

This facility will add to the already existing Afrim’s Sports locations in Colonie, Bethlehem, and Latham. Locals of this site weren’t originally happy with the decision to build there but hopefully it will only benefit the community. When more details are available, I’ll update with the news.
