Creativity is 80% Bourbon and 20% Ice

As you probably saw in my blog post from yesterday (LINK HERE), I had a great meal at Salt & Char (353 Broadway, Saratoga Springs) but what enhanced the experience is pairing it with their Fall drink, the Bourbon Smash.

Salt & Char’s Bourbon Smash
Makes 1
6-8 mint leaves
1 1/2 ounces bourbon, such as Buffalo Trace
2 ounces fresh lemon juice
1 ounce mint simple syrup*
lemon wheel, for garnish
mint sprig, for garnish
Rip mint leaves into pieces and place into cocktail shaker with remaining ingredients and add ice. Shake and double strain over crushed ice into rocks glass. Garnish with lemon wheel and mint spring.

*Mint Simple Syrup: Add 1 cup water and 2 cups sugar to a medium pot and cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Add 10 minute leaves to the hot syrup and let steep 10 minutes. Strain out mint leaves and reserve syrup

I’m a big fan of bourbon. I’m a whiskey drinker anyway but bourbon has more recently became my liquor of choice. If you’ve ever heard of a Moscow Mule, this has the same kind of style but much more flavor. The mint isn’t too strong but enhances the flavor, the lemon juice doesn’t hit  your taste buds too sour but constructed with the bourbon beautifully. If you’re in the Saratoga area, stop in to Salt and Char for a drink. They have an expansive drink menu with anything you could ever hope for on it. If it were up to me though, I’d get that Bourbon Smash. Let me know how you like it!
