“Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read”
Aside from the 4 years I went to college, I’ve lived in Schenectady my whole life. I love to see the growth that Schenectady has done since I was a kid. Upper Union Street has grown to be a great neighborhood with flourishing businesses and one of the best places to hang out at during the Spring or Summer especially. Downtown Schenectady has grown with great bars and restaurants and is now one of the top nightlife areas in the Capital Region.
I’ve recently tried to get back in to not only reading but actually reading books aside from those on my iPad. There’s something special about going through the stacks and stacks of books at a library, picking out the right one and having it in front of you to read with that old book smell. I went into the main Schenectady County Public Library and saw the great renovations they made to the children’s area. To those of you who are familiar with that location, the children’s book area has moved to the other side of the library and was replaced by large-print books.
If you don’t have the time to go to the library (though a shame), they offer a new app to loan books. As long as you have a library card, you can have e-books loaned to you via a Kindle or a Kindle app on your tablet. You decide if you want to loan the book out for either 7, 14 or 21 days and after that period of time, the book disappears and “returns” itself to the library. It’s pretty innovative and they have a great book selection to choose from. Check out the library and the new app and let me know what you think!
