“Chocolate’s okay, but I prefer a really intense fruit taste. You know when a peach is absolutely perfect… it’s sublime. I’d like to capture that and then use it in a dessert.”

Kathy Mattea

It seems as if recently there are more and more frozen yogurt places opening in the 518- no problem there with me! From the outside, they all look about the same, offering you the same kinds of yogurt and same toppings but in actuality they’re all a little different. One of the newest place to get that fro-yo you love so much is Lemondrop (65 Wolf Rd, Colonie).

I’m always looking for new places to blog about and I got a post on my FACEBOOK page about Lemondrop and of course I had to give it a try. Lemondrop only opened a month or so ago but has the same basic format as TCBY and 16 Handles. You get a cup, fill it with whatever flavors you want, add the toppings and possible sauces then weight it and enjoy. I can’t help myself but add a few flavors in each cup, I can never stick to just one. If you want to try one out before chancing it, they let you taste it first in a little cup to make sure you like it. What impressed me the most about Lemondrop was the size. All yogurt places may have the same basic structure but what made Lemondrop different is that you could fit a whole baseball team, for example and still have room for other customers.

The only thing that I liked less about Lemondrop than the others was the toppings. I’m one to usually add mostly fruit and a dash of something sweet on my yogurt. Though they did have fruit it was outnumbered by the Capt Crunch and other candies. I wasn’t disappointed in the yogurt creation I ended up making because who doesn’t enjoy oreo bits M&Ms and a dash of cookie dough chunks? I just figure if you’re looking for some healthier options, there’s a smaller selection.

Overall, it’s in a great location and the flavors are pretty original. You won’t find a basic strawberry here, they jazz it up a little bit more but luckily still have my favorite Eurotart that’s reminiscent of PinkBerry that I used to eat in NYC. Today they’re offering your first 3 ounces of your at least 10 ounce creation for FREE! I was able to try this with a Groupon I bought a few weeks ago but now that the Groupon option is gone, check out this deal and let me know what you think! While there, don’t forget to add a few boba bites. They have the biggest selection of boba flavors that I’ve seen so far and it’s a fun burst of flavor in your mouth when you come across them in your yogurt!
