“I doubt whether the world holds for any one a more soul-stirring surprise than the first adventure with ice-cream.”
I did it. I finally did it. You’d think having lived here my whole life and how I constantly talk about different places to go to eat that I’d been to The Snowman (531 5th Ave, Troy) before. Well, I hadn’t, until a couple weeks ago anyway. The way I looked at it was that I’ve had ice cream from all over the Capital District. Though I kept hearing just how great The Snowman’s ice cream was, I didn’t see how it could be that much better than Kurver or Guptills. Well, it was fantastic.
It’s hard for me to directly compare ice cream from one place to another unless I have both of them so I can’t say it’s the BEST ice cream in the area but is it delicious. I ordered Chocolate Chip Cookie dough and I think it’s safe to say that it’s the smoothest cookie dough ice cream I’ve ever had and it was hard ice cream, mind you. The sizes are a little bigger than you’d expect so keep that in mind when you order. I was impressed that they offered Only 8. Only 8 is only 8 calories and has no lactose in it and I would’ve ordered it but I wasn’t in the mood for either flavor they offered that day.
If you head over to their website, check out the number and kinds of sundaes they offer. If I had seen the Snickers Deluxe, I probably would’ve ordered that instead of cookie dough! What’s special about The Snowman is that they make all the premium hard ice cream, yogurts, and sherbets that they serve on site daily, that’s pretty impressive.
If you’re like me and have put off the drive to Troy to try this ice cream, procrastinate no longer! Though I don’t feel secure enough to say this is the best ice cream in the area, it’s definitely up there on the list. With the prices being from $2-4, it’s worth bringing the family for a cone or two, or maybe an ice cream pie! The only downside is trying to find a place to park but you’re allowed to park on the street as well as in their parking lot. Enjoy! Let me know what you think! What’s YOUR favorite 518 ice cream?
