“The Hardest Part of Skating is the Ice”
I felt today is the perfect day as any to talk about the Empire State Plaza Ice Skating Rink. I haven’t been there in ages and though it may not look like Winter, it sure feels like it. For the first time in more than 4 years after being closed for budget restraints, Albany has decided to open up the ice skating rink in Empire State Plaza.
The GRAND RE-OPENING was earlier this morning at 11:00AM with FREE skate rentals, FREE hot chocolate and music until 8:00PM tonight (Closed 1:00PM-2:00PM for maintenance). They will have the Albany Figure Skating Club on hand for skating help with a demonstration at 2:00PM today. From here on out, the rink will be open EVERY DAY from 11:00AM-8:00PM through early March but closed 3:00PM-4:00PM for maintenance.
The cost to skate is FREE but $3 for skate rental for children under 12 and $4 for adults & coin lockers at 25 cents.
“I am pleased that after being closed for years, this ice rink is once again open to the public,” Governor Cuomo said. “The Empire State Plaza is a wonderful asset that deserves to be enjoyed all year round, so I am thrilled that we are able to end this year with such a great event.” (governor.ny.gov)
